Menin Gate

This study of a Despatch Rider passing the Menin Gate during an artillery bombardment was one of the first to hang in the Royal Corps of Signals Headquarters Mess in Blandford, England. Gilbert Halliday served as an Officer in the Royal Field Artillery from 1915 to 1919, but he was already a noted artist and illustrator, and he sketched every aspect of life and death at the front. He served mainly in the Ypres Salient and so would have had first hand knowledge of the scene depicted here.

Print is on 8.5" x 11 photo paper. Image size 10" x  8"
